Fire damages Lafayette County home, no injuries reported
Lafayette County Fire Department responded Friday to a structure fire on County Road 208, according to a news release from the department.
First-arriving units confirmed a working fire with flames visible from the front of the home. The incident commander ordered an offensive fire attack, and crews entered the structure to suppress the blaze.
The fire was contained to the kitchen and surrounding areas. However, the rest of the home sustained extensive heat and smoke damage due to high temperatures generated by the fire load, officials said.
No injuries were reported, and no one was home at the time of the fire, authorities said. Fire Chief Wes Anderson credited a neighbor’s quick call to 911 for helping prevent a worse outcome.
“This outcome could have been much worse,” Anderson said. “We’re grateful to the neighbor who noticed smoke and called 911 right away. That quick decision made a difference. Watching out for your neighbors and reporting concerns early is one of the simplest ways we can keep our community safer.”
