Girls EmPOWERment class visits Mississippi State Capitol

Jackson, Mississippi — On March 18, 2026, Mayor Tannehill’s Girls EmPOWERment Class visited the Mississippi State Capitol for a behind-the-scenes tour and legislative experience.

The students received an exclusive tour from State Representative Steve Massengill and heard from speakers including State Senator Nicole Boyd, State Representative Clay Deweese, and State Representative Josh Hawkins, among others, according to organizers.

The trip aimed to inspire future leaders and provide an inside look at state government. Organizers said the visit was a memorable experience for the girls.

Officials said this trip marks the first part of a series. A second part will include a video feature on the OXMS.net website, where the girls will share their experiences and hear from Mississippi lawmakers directly, organizers added.
