Interstate 55 and Interstate 22 reopen in northern Mississippi amid winter conditions

Interstates 22 and 55 are now open in northern Mississippi, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation. All lanes on I-22 from Red Banks (Exit 21) to the Tennessee state line have reopened after closures. The northbound section of I-55 north of Como (Exit 257) has also reopened.

Despite the reopenings, crews remain on site, and officials advise caution. Icy conditions, debris, and ongoing work are still present in these areas, and travel is discouraged unless necessary, MDOT said.

Several counties in Mississippi continue to report ice on roads and bridges. These include Alcorn, Benton, Bolivar, Calhoun, Coahoma, DeSoto, Grenada, Lafayette, Leflore, Marshall, Panola, Prentiss, Quitman, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Washington, and Yalobusha counties.

MDOT recommends using the Traffic App or visiting MDOTtraffic.com for live road conditions. Emergency travel is advised only in counties affected by winter weather, which are shaded blue on the agency’s map.
