Lafayette County conducts weekly outdoor warning siren test

Lafayette County Emergency Management will conduct its weekly outdoor warning siren test Wednesday at 11:55 a.m., according to officials. The test is routine and intended to ensure the alert system is functioning properly.

Residents are advised that if they hear sirens and skies are clear, it is just a test. If a siren sounds abnormally or does not activate, officials ask that residents report it by messaging the Lafayette County Emergency Management Facebook page or calling (662) 234-5667.

Emergency officials emphasize that outdoor warning sirens are designed to alert people who are outside to seek shelter. They are not intended to be heard indoors. Residents are encouraged to have multiple ways to receive severe weather alerts, including NOAA Weather Radios and weather apps with notifications enabled.

Officials remind residents to stay weather-aware as part of their safety precautions.
