Lafayette County EMS reports storm-related fatality involving generator

Lafayette County Emergency Management announced a fatality linked to recent storm conditions. The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon when a resident fell while refilling a generator on their property.

Paramedics from the Lafayette County Fire Department responded around 3:05 p.m. and provided life-saving efforts at the scene. The individual was airlifted to Regional One Health in Memphis for further treatment but later died from injuries sustained during the fall, according to officials.

The person’s identity has not been released, pending family notification. The death was confirmed Thursday morning at The MED in Memphis, Lafayette County Emergency Management said.

Steve Quarles, the agency’s director, expressed condolences to the family and urged residents to exercise caution amid ongoing storm cleanup efforts. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends,” Quarles said. “As we continue to deal with storm impacts, we’re asking everyone to slow down and use extreme caution around their homes and property. Conditions remain hazardous, and simple tasks can become dangerous when surfaces are icy, visibility is low, or you’re fatigued.”

The agency also reminded residents to take extra safety precautions while operating equipment during winter weather conditions.
