Lafayette County EMS Reports Storm-Related Fatality Involving Generator

Lafayette County Emergency Management announced the death of a resident following a storm-related incident involving a generator. The incident occurred Wednesday around 3:05 p.m. on a resident’s property, according to authorities.

Paramedics from the Lafayette County Fire Department responded to the scene after reports of an individual who had fallen while refilling a generator and hit their head. Emergency crews administered life-saving measures before transporting the patient via air ambulance to Regional One Health in Memphis.

The individual died Thursday morning at the Memphis hospital. Authorities have not released the person’s name, citing respect for the family.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends during this difficult time,” said Steve Quarles, director of Lafayette County Emergency Management. “As we continue to deal with storm impacts, we urge residents to exercise caution around their homes and property. Conditions remain hazardous, and simple tasks can become dangerous when surfaces are icy, visibility is low, or fatigue sets in. Please prioritize safety.”

Lafayette County Emergency Management advised residents to take extra precautions during winter weather, especially when operating equipment or cleaning up storm damage.
