Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office awarded public safety grant from Mississippi DPS
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office has received a public safety grant from the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, officials announced Tuesday. The funding will save Lafayette County taxpayers more than $110,000 in equipment costs and enhance deputy operations.
The grant will cover the purchase of a side-by-side utility vehicle to assist deputies in hard-to-reach areas. Officials say the new vehicle will help reduce response times and improve service in rural and recreational zones.
The funding also allows for the installation of computers in all patrol vehicles. These systems will give deputies quicker access to critical information, streamline report writing, and enable officers to stay in the field longer rather than returning to the office to complete paperwork.
Each patrol unit will also be equipped with a mobile printer, allowing deputies to provide printed documents and information directly to citizens at scene. Additionally, the Investigations and Training divisions will receive new equipment to support updated training and on-scene evidence processing, which officials say will reduce case turnaround times.
Sheriff Joey East expressed gratitude for the support, saying, “We are grateful to Commissioner Sean Tindell and the Mississippi Department of Public Safety for their continued commitment to public safety in Lafayette County. These resources will help our deputies work more efficiently, respond more quickly, and better serve our community.”
