Lafayette County to Test Outdoor Warning Sirens Wednesday

Lafayette County Emergency Management will test outdoor warning sirens every Wednesday at 11:55 a.m., according to a news release. If residents hear sirens during the test and skies are clear, officials say there is no cause for concern.

The agency advises residents to report any sirens that do not sound correctly or fail to activate by messaging on Facebook or calling (662) 234-5667.

Officials emphasize that outdoor warning sirens are designed to alert people outside to seek shelter. The sirens are not intended to be heard indoors. Residents are encouraged to have multiple ways to receive severe weather alerts, such as NOAA Weather Radio and weather apps with notifications enabled.

Officials remind Lafayette County residents to stay weather aware and prepared during storm season.
