Lafayette County to Test Outdoor Warning Sirens Wednesday

Lafayette County Emergency Management will conduct its weekly outdoor warning siren test Wednesday at 11:55 a.m., officials said. The test is routine and occurs every week at that time.

Residents are advised that if they hear sirens and the sky is clear, it is part of the scheduled test. Officials emphasized that the sirens are intended to alert people outdoors to seek shelter and gather more information. They are not designed to be heard indoors.

The department urged residents to have multiple ways to receive severe weather alerts, including NOAA Weather Radios and weather apps with notifications enabled. If residents notice a siren that sounds unusual or does not activate during the test, they are encouraged to report it via Facebook message or by calling (662) 234-5667.

Officials reminded the public to stay weather-aware and prepared for severe weather conditions in Lafayette County.
