Mainline fiber cut in NE disrupts internet and power restoration efforts

North East SPARC reports that its mainline fiber was cut yesterday afternoon at the intersection of County Road 271, Bethel Church Road, and Highway 6 East.

The damage disrupted internet service for subscribers and slowed ongoing power restoration efforts, according to the company. North East Power depends on its fiber network for Smart Grid operations and crew communications.

Company officials said the fiber damage creates delays in restoring power and poses safety risks for crews working in the field. Repairs to a mainline fiber typically cost $25,000 or more.

North East SPARC stated that anyone responsible for cutting the fiber lines will be held accountable and prosecuted to the fullest extent permitted by law.
