Mississippi advises avoiding travel on I-55 North and I-22 West due to icy conditions

Mississippi officials are urging drivers to avoid travel on Interstate 55 North and Interstate 22 West due to hazardous conditions. Troopers and officers from the Mississippi Department of Transportation are positioned in Grenada, Marshall County, and Batesville to turn vehicles around because of nearly impassable roads.

According to Colonel Pitts, road conditions remain miserable and are expected to stay that way until the ice is removed. The department emphasizes that the roads need to be clear for crews to work on ice removal efforts.

Motorists are advised to stay off these routes to ensure their safety and to allow emergency crews to perform necessary work. The situation remains fluid, and officials will provide updates as conditions change.
