Mississippi communities distribute MREs and water amid supply shortages
Residents in Lafayette County and Oxford can pick up meals and bottled water today from multiple distribution sites. The effort is a joint response by Lafayette County Emergency Management, the City of Oxford, the Mississippi National Guard, and other local partners.
Distributions are scheduled from noon to 4 p.m., or until supplies run out. Each person is limited to three days’ worth of MREs and water to ensure broader access. The sites include the Lafayette County Harmontown SO Substation, Lafayette High School, Lafayette County Fire Station 6, Taylor Activity Center, Lafayette County Fire Station 11, Oasis Church, and various locations within Oxford.
City officials announced the distribution locations at Heritage Park, CB Webb Forrest Circle, Old Taylor near Faulkner Flats, Wayne Johnson & 18th, Walnut Hills, Woodlawn & Anderson Road, and Oxford Way & Farmview. Bottled water is available at select sites, with staff comprised of National Guard members and community partners working to serve residents.
Authorities urge residents to be patient and respectful during the distribution process. Supplies are limited, and distribution will continue until stock is depleted, officials said.
