Mississippi highway closures and diversions due to icy conditions

Road conditions in Mississippi remain hazardous as crews from the Mississippi Department of Transportation work to remove ice from the roadways. The Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Commercial Transportation Enforcement Division announced traffic diversions and closures Thursday.

Drivers on northbound Interstate 55 at Exit 243 in Batesville will be diverted away from the Tennessee state line. Similarly, westbound Interstate 22 at Exit 21 in Red Banks will be closed to prevent travel into potentially dangerous conditions. Eastbound traffic on Interstate 22/U.S. Highway 78 will be halted at Exit 1 (Craft Road), according to authorities.

Officials warned that bypassing barricades set up along these routes is at drivers’ own risk. The Mississippi Department of Transportation plans to open the northbound right lane of Interstate 55 at 8 a.m. Thursday, providing some relief for travelers.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation and advise drivers to exercise caution and stay informed about road updates as conditions evolve.
