Mississippi offers SNAP food replacement for disaster-related losses

Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS) is offering SNAP food replacements for eligible recipients affected by recent disasters. The program applies to SNAP recipients who lost food due to events such as floods, fires, tornadoes, or power outages caused by weather.

Recipients can request replacement benefits for food purchased with SNAP that was destroyed. The benefits will not exceed the recipient’s usual monthly SNAP amount. To qualify, applicants must report the loss within 10 days of the disaster or weather event.

Power outages must last more than four hours and be caused by a weather event to qualify. Applicants must contact their local MDHS office and submit a 508 Form with documented proof of loss via mail, email, or secure upload. The secure upload link is available at https://ea-upload.mdhs.ms.gov.

MDHS encourages affected individuals to share this information with others who may need assistance. The program aims to help SNAP recipients recover from food losses caused by recent severe weather.
