Mississippi offers SNAP food replacement for disaster-related losses
Current SNAP recipients in Mississippi can request replacement benefits if they lost food due to recent disasters or severe weather, the Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS) announced.
Recipients must report the loss within 10 days of the event. The replacement benefits will not exceed their usual monthly SNAP amount. Eligible events include floods, fires, tornadoes, or power outages caused by weather and lasting more than four hours.
To apply, individuals need to report the disaster and their food loss to their local MDHS office within the deadline. They must also submit a 508 Form with documented proof of the loss via mail, email, or secure upload. A secure upload link is available at https://ea-upload.mdhs.ms.gov.
MDHS encourages recipients to share this information with others who may be affected by recent weather events.
