Mississippi offers SNAP food replacement for recent weather-related losses

Mississippi residents participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) who lost food due to recent weather events may qualify for replacement benefits through the Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS), officials announced.

To be eligible, applicants must be current SNAP recipients and can only seek replacement for food purchased with SNAP benefits that was lost. The replacement benefits will not exceed the recipient’s usual monthly SNAP amount.

Recipients are urged to report losses within 10 days of the disaster or weather event. Qualifying events include floods, fires, tornadoes, and power outages caused by weather that last more than four hours, officials said.

Applicants should contact their local MDHS office within the reporting window and submit a 508 Form along with documented proof of the loss. Proof can be submitted via mail, email, or through a secure upload link provided by MDHS. More information is available at https://ea-upload.mdhs.ms.gov.
