North East Mississippi Electric provides storm recovery update

North East Mississippi Electric Power Association provided an update on storm recovery efforts. The utility reports that about 95% of its system was without power at the storm’s peak.

Currently, 27 crews are in the field, with more arriving tomorrow and Wednesday. By Wednesday morning, the utility expects approximately 50 crews will be working on restoring power across its service territory, according to the association.

Crews are making progress on key infrastructure. TVA crews are on site at the West Oxford and Taylor substations, and officials are optimistic about restoring power within the next 24 hours. The substation serving the university was energized this morning, and two additional substations are expected to be energized today and two more tomorrow.

Work is also ongoing on the Lafayette Springs circuit and in the Thaxton and Hurricane areas. Crews are clearing right of way along Highway 334, Tula, and Paris. As these efforts continue, line crews will be able to restore power to affected areas.

The utility emphasizes that restoration is an extended process and asks for patience and understanding. Crews are working safely and steadily across the entire service territory, and officials note that progress is being made each day.
