Ole Miss Big Event draws thousands for community service in Oxford

Students at the University of Mississippi participated in the annual Big Event on Saturday, a large-scale day of service in Oxford and Lafayette County, according to organizers.

The event is the largest student-led community service day in Mississippi, with approximately 1,000 volunteers expected to contribute their time. Volunteers worked across more than 110 project sites, performing tasks such as painting, landscaping, yard work, and deep cleaning for local residents and nonprofits.

Since its inception in 2011, the Big Event has become a 15-year tradition at Ole Miss, serving as a way for students to give back to the Oxford community. Volunteers collectively spent thousands of hours completing various service projects during the morning.

Organizers expressed enthusiasm about continuing the partnership with the Big Event in future years, highlighting its role in fostering community engagement and student involvement.
