Ole Miss closes through Feb. 1 amid winter weather and power outages
The University of Mississippi has extended its closure through Sunday, Feb. 1, affecting classes and activities, university officials announced. Safety remains the top priority as winter weather continues to impact the campus.
Officials warned of falling ice from buildings, trees, and power lines due to fluctuating temperatures. The university advised students and staff to avoid areas under overhangs, roofs, and near power lines to prevent injuries. Caution is also advised when entering or exiting buildings and when walking on sidewalks that may have black ice.
Power has been restored to more than 90% of the campus, including all on-campus residence halls, according to university officials. Power has also been restored to The Quarters. The university is working with the city of Oxford to determine when power will be fully restored to off-campus housing and master lease properties, with updates to be shared as available.
Dining services have resumed gradually. A food truck is operating at Minor Hall, and Provisions on Demand (P.O.D.s) are expected to open Wednesday, Jan. 28, in Stockard-Martin and Crosby halls after deliveries arrive. Rebel Market remains open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Due to weather conditions, the Ole Miss women’s basketball game against Vanderbilt has been moved to Birmingham, Alabama, and will be played Friday, Jan. 30, at 2 p.m. The game against Auburn has been rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 2, at 6 p.m. at the SJB Pavilion. The university has established a Call Center for non-emergency updates at 662-915-7211, open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Follow @OleMiss on social media for ongoing updates.
