Oxford Police Arrest Man After Wrong-Way Chase on Highway 6
Oxford, Miss. – A high-speed pursuit through Oxford turned dangerous Monday when a driver fled from officers and began traveling the wrong direction on Highway 6, ultimately leading to a crash and foot chase.
According to the Oxford Police Department, an officer attempted a traffic stop on August 18, 2025, along Highway 334 after observing multiple violations. The driver, identified as 39-year-old Kelsey Jennings of Ocean Springs, initially pulled over but then sped away as the officer approached.
Jennings merged onto Highway 6 westbound before turning onto the wrong side of the road from the Old Taylor Road onramp. He continued traveling the wrong way in the westbound lanes while heading east, striking another vehicle before exiting onto South Lamar Boulevard. Despite the collision, Jennings kept driving the wrong way until his car became disabled near Johnson Avenue, where he abandoned it and fled on foot.
Officers pursued Jennings through the area until he was taken into custody near a residence on Buchanan Avenue. The driver of the vehicle struck during the chase was not injured.
Jennings now faces felony fleeing charges along with five misdemeanors, including:
- Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Property Damage
- Possession of Marijuana in a Motor Vehicle
- Driving While License Suspended
- Careless Driving
- Seatbelt Violation
He appeared before a Municipal Court judge for his initial bond hearing, but the Mississippi Department of Corrections placed a hold on Jennings since he was already out on parole.
Police said no officers or other bystanders were injured during the chase.
