Oxford police arrest suspect in attempted sexual assault case

The Oxford Police Department arrested Keilun Treveon Lewis, 19, of Oxford, Mississippi, in connection with an attempted sexual assault that occurred on the night of February 26, police said.

Officers received a walk-in report on March 5 from a woman who said she was approached by a driver while walking along University Avenue. The driver offered her a ride home, but after entering the vehicle, he took her to another location and held her against her will in an alleged attempt to commit sexual assault, according to police.

Investigators identified Lewis through leads developed during the investigation. He was charged with attempted rape and kidnapping. A municipal court judge set bond, and Lewis remains in custody pending further proceedings.

The department issued safety reminders for residents and visitors, urging caution when entering vehicles with unfamiliar individuals and advising verification of rideshare drivers through the app. Authorities recommended using designated pickup areas, which are well-lit and monitored by cameras, and encouraged reporting suspicious activity immediately.

Law enforcement also encouraged anyone with additional information or who may have been a victim of a similar incident to contact the Oxford Police Department at 662-232-2400.
