Oxford police captain honored at reception and city meeting

Oxford Police Department Captain Donovan Lyons was honored Thursday during a reception hosted by the Oxford Board of Aldermen.

Lyons has served the department for 18 years, during which he has contributed to public safety efforts in Oxford and Yalobusha County, according to officials.

The event highlighted Lyons’ dedication to the community, as well as his leadership within the police force. The recognition coincided with the department’s appreciation for his service and commitment.

Meanwhile, Marlene Bishop, who responded to a help-wanted ad 18 years ago, was mentioned in the event as an example of how opportunities can lead to meaningful community impact.
