Oxford School District Updates on Reopening Plans Amid Storm Recovery

The Oxford School District is evaluating when to reopen schools after a severe ice storm. The district’s Central Office Operations Team meets daily to assess campus cleanup, infrastructure readiness, and key safety metrics, according to Superintendent Bradley Roberson.

All district campuses currently have power and water, but conditions remain fluid as restoration efforts continue across the community. The district monitors several metrics, including staff and family access to power and water, bus route safety, and the functionality of critical systems like servers.

Roberson said he is in daily contact with Mayor Tannehill and Keith Hayward, CEO of North East Mississippi Electric Power Association, to gather up-to-date information. A decision on reopening is expected to be announced by Friday at 10 a.m.

Earlier this week, the district plans to distribute free meals at Oxford Middle School from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., starting Thursday. The effort aims to support families and staff during recovery.

Roberson thanked the community for their patience and flexibility and urged everyone to prioritize safety as the district continues recovery efforts.
