University of Mississippi’s Oxford Campus Closed Through Sunday Due to Severe Winter Storm

The Oxford campus of the University of Mississippi will remain closed through Sunday, Feb. 8, due to extensive damage from a recent ice storm and winter weather, university officials announced.

The closure affects all classes, events, and activities on campus. The university is monitoring conditions and will notify students and staff of any further changes to operations, officials said.

Significant impacts from the storm include downed trees and power lines, outages, falling ice, and hazardous road conditions. The city, county, and university teams are working to restore services, clear roads, and assess infrastructure damage, according to the university.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation advises travelers to check road conditions before heading out. Some roads in the region remain closed, and residents are urged to postpone travel to allow first responders to continue recovery efforts.

Students and staff outside the area are advised not to return until conditions improve. The university’s Student Union remains open as a warming center with overnight access, and the Rebel Market continues to serve as the campus food service location. Limited bus service has resumed from major campus locations, with schedules available on social media. Regional campuses are coordinating their operations accordingly.
