Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office warns of phone scam impersonating law enforcement

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam involving individuals impersonating law enforcement officers and requesting money over the phone, the department announced Thursday.

The sheriff’s office emphasized that it will never call residents demanding payment or ask for money through gift cards, prepaid cards, or electronic transfers. Any call threatening arrest or legal action unless immediate payment is made is a scam, authorities said.

Officials advise anyone receiving such calls to hang up immediately, avoid sharing personal or financial information, and report the incident to the sheriff’s office at (662) 234-6421. Residents are encouraged to share this warning to help protect themselves and their loved ones.
