Free Narcan training set for Oct. 1 at Oxford Police Department

The Oxford Police Department, Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office and Ole Miss Police are partnering with Communicare MS to host a free community Narcan training event from 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Oxford Police Department Training Room, 9 Industrial Park Drive, according to an announcement shared by the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office.

Narcan will be provided to all attendees. No registration is required, and everyone is welcome to attend, the announcement said.

The announcement described the training as an opportunity for community members to learn a potentially lifesaving skill and said law enforcement agencies were providing the training and Narcan while maintaining a commitment to enforcement involving illegal narcotics.

The announcement also referred to the loss of two students and said the deaths had deeply affected the community. It expressed condolences to the students’ families, friends, classmates and others grieving.
