Lafayette County burn ban expired at midnight Nov. 6
The Lafayette County Board of Supervisors announced that the countywide burn ban would expire at midnight Friday, Nov. 6, according to a notice shared by Lafayette County EMA.
The notice cautioned that the ban’s expiration did not mean conditions were always safe for outdoor burning. It advised people to check the forecast and avoid burning on windy, dry or low-humidity days.
Anyone burning should keep piles small and well away from homes, sheds, fences, trees and power lines. The area around a pile should be cleared down to bare dirt, with a charged garden hose, shovel and rake kept nearby.
The notice said people should burn only natural yard debris, such as leaves, limbs and brush, and never leave a fire unattended.
To put out a fire, people should drown it, stir it and drown it again until it is cold to the touch. Anyone whose fire gets out of control should call 911 immediately.
