Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office introduces SRO/Sgt. Michael Bevill

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office introduced SRO/Sgt. Michael Bevill in a social media post as part of its recurring “Meet Us Monday” series.

The series features members of the Sheriff’s Office and asks them about their background, their work and what they want the public to know about the agency or Lafayette County.

Bevill said he was born and raised in Lafayette County. He said he enjoys working at a school, talking with students and helping them see that law enforcement officers are people who like to laugh and have a good time.

He also said protecting students, faculty and staff is a responsibility and privilege he considers an honor. Bevill helps with driver education by participating in a mock “stop and approach” exercise with young drivers, explaining what to expect during a traffic stop and why law enforcement officers conduct stops as they do.

Bevill said the school resource officer unit has been the best decision he has made after nearly a decade on patrol answering calls. He also said he has been with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office for nearly 17 years.
