Lafayette County sheriff’s office offers Halloween traffic safety tips
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office shared traffic safety advice for Halloween, urging drivers to slow down and watch carefully for children in neighborhoods.
The office advised drivers to reduce their speed, particularly between 5 and 9 p.m., when more children may be out trick-or-treating. Drivers also should watch for children who may dart out from between parked cars and use extra caution when pulling into or out of driveways.
Drivers should not pass a vehicle stopped in the road, the office said, because the vehicle may be stopping to let children cross or get out. The office also urged drivers to put down their phones and give their full attention to the road.
The office advised parents to add reflective tape or glow sticks to children’s costumes and provide flashlights so children are more visible to drivers. The announcement said Halloween would be Saturday and closed with a wish for a safe and happy Halloween in Lafayette County.
