Lafayette County sheriff’s office reminds residents to secure homes, vehicles
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office issued a community safety reminder urging residents to take several steps to help protect their homes and vehicles.
The office encouraged residents to lock front, back and garage doors; check that windows are secured; lock vehicles; and take keys and valuables inside. It also recommended using porch or motion-sensor lighting.
The reminder encouraged residents to report suspicious activity and to look out for their neighbors. The office said most break-ins are crimes of opportunity and called a locked door one of the best deterrents.
