Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office warns drivers to watch for deer
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office warned drivers that deer become more active in Lafayette County as fall arrives, particularly around dawn and dusk.
The office said deer can dart into roadways with little warning. It advised drivers to slow down in areas where deer are common and to watch roadsides, especially near wooded areas.
Drivers should use high beams when appropriate and when no oncoming traffic is present, according to the sheriff’s office. If a deer crosses the vehicle’s path, drivers should brake firmly and stay in their lane.
The office also advised motorists to avoid swerving, which could cause them to lose control of their vehicles. Drivers who see one deer should remain alert because others may be nearby.
