Mississippi Department of Public Safety urges support for first responders during Suicide Prevention Month

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety marked September as Suicide Prevention Month with a message about mental health struggles among law enforcement officers and first responders.

The department said law enforcement officers and first responders face difficult situations every day and need support. It encouraged people to check in on a friend, coworker or fellow officer, saying those conversations can make a difference.

The message also said asking for help is a sign of strength and that no one should have to struggle alone.

People seeking support, or concerned about someone else, can call or text 988 to connect with the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
