Capitol Police announces 2026 Spring Citizens Academy applications open
Capitol Police announced that applications are now being accepted for the 2026 Spring Citizens Academy. The program is open to residents of the Capitol Complex Improvement District (CCID).
The academy will run from April 20 to April 28, meeting weekdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with an additional session on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Applications are available on the department’s website, dps.ms.gov, with a deadline of April 15, 2026.
The seven-day course offers residents a chance to learn about law enforcement duties and responsibilities firsthand. Participants will engage in driver education and simulation activities, watch a K-9 demonstration, observe forensic crime scene investigations, and join ride-alongs with Capitol Police officers. The program also provides an overview of Capitol Police operations, including the CCID court and its jurisdiction.
