Donkey Basketball fundraiser brings Oxford-area officials, first responders to Lafayette County arena

The City of Oxford highlighted a Donkey Basketball fundraiser at the Lafayette County Multi-Purpose Arena, thanking participants and spectators for attending the event.

According to a post from the City of Oxford, participants included City of Oxford staff and elected officials, the Oxford Fire Department, the Oxford Police Department, the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council and the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department.

The city's post said local first responders and city staff played basketball while riding donkeys as part of an effort to raise money for a charitable cause. Players attempted to dribble and shoot while staying on the animals, according to the post.

The event included ticket sales and opportunities to sponsor donkeys. The City of Oxford also thanked spectators who cheered from the stands.
