Former North Mississippi Police Officer Arrested on Child Sex Allegations
Oxford, MS– A former police officer in North Mississippi has been arrested on child sex charges.
Lafayette County Sheriff Joey East confirmed that Steven Naron, 34, was booked into the Lafayette County Jail on Saturday. According to the department’s inmate roster, Naron faces a charge of enticement of child sex conduct.
Authorities say Naron previously worked with the Senatobia and Water Valley police departments. Water Valley Police Chief Jason Mangrum said Naron’s employment there officially ended on August 5, following a vote by the city’s board of aldermen.
Mangrum explained that Naron had requested a week of vacation on July 11 but never returned. “That’s the last I heard from him,” Mangrum said, adding that the termination was due to a lack of communication. He also emphasized that no complaints or accusations of child-related misconduct were ever reported against Naron while employed in Water Valley.
As of Monday, the Senatobia Police Department had not provided comment.
Naron remains in custody at the Lafayette County Jail as the investigation continues.
