Lafayette County braces for second round of severe weather

Lafayette County residents are preparing for a second round of severe weather, according to the county’s emergency management agency. The storms are expected to arrive around 3 p.m. and persist into the evening and overnight hours.

The primary threats include damaging straight-line winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. Locally heavy rain and flash flooding are also possible, the Lafayette County Emergency Management Agency said.

Officials advise residents to take precautions. They recommend charging phones and weather radios, ensuring multiple warning methods, and identifying a safe shelter — such as the lowest floor of a building, an interior room, away from windows. Residents are also urged to bring in outdoor items like trash cans and patio furniture before noon and check on vulnerable neighbors, especially those in mobile homes or living alone.

If a tornado warning is issued, authorities urge residents to seek shelter immediately without delay. Cooler, drier weather is forecast to arrive Thursday, offering relief after the storm threat passes.
