Lafayette County faces increasing threat of large hail this evening, weather service warns

The National Weather Service has issued a warning for Lafayette County and surrounding areas in North Mississippi, indicating an increasing threat of large hail this evening. Storms are expected to develop through sunset, bringing hazardous weather conditions.

Along with hail, storms may produce damaging wind gusts and locally heavy rainfall, the weather service said. These threats could lead to property damage and flash flooding in some areas.

Residents are advised to take precautions before storms arrive. They should move vehicles under cover, bring pets indoors, and secure outdoor items that could be blown away. Charging phones and ensuring access to weather alerts is also recommended. People should identify a safe place, such as an interior room on the lowest floor, away from windows.

The weather service said it will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed. Authorities urge residents to stay weather-aware this evening to remain safe during the storm activity.
