Lafayette County Implements Burn Ban Amid Dry Conditions

Lafayette County has announced a county-wide burn ban effective immediately, aiming to reduce wildfire risk during dry conditions, according to county officials.

The ban prohibits outdoor burning of leaves, brush, debris, and the use of burn barrels, campfires, bonfires, fire pits, and fire rings. Agricultural or field burning is also restricted unless exempted by authorities.

Permitted outdoor cooking devices, such as propane, gas, and charcoal grills, must be used safely, away from combustible materials, and never left unattended. Charcoal must be fully cooled and soaked with water before disposal, officials said.

County officials urged residents to comply with the ban to protect homes, property, and firefighting personnel. Uncontrolled fires should be reported immediately by calling 911.

The burn ban will remain in effect for the next month, with updates provided when it is lifted or modified, officials added.
