Lafayette County Issues Weather Alert for Friday Night Storms

Officials from Lafayette County Emergency Management Agency have issued a weather alert for Friday, warning residents of active weather conditions. The National Weather Service Memphis reports scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout the day, with a high near 81°F and a 60% chance of rain. Rainfall could reach up to half an inch.

Tonight, the weather system is expected to intensify, with showers and thunderstorms likely. Some storms may produce heavy rainfall, with a 90% chance of rain and potential accumulations of up to three-quarters of an inch. Temperatures are expected to dip to around 60°F.

The NWS Memphis highlights the risks for the area, including slight chances of severe thunderstorms and damaging winds, a marginal risk of tornadoes, and elevated lightning activity. Heavy rainfall and flooding are also noted as limited threats.

Residents are advised to turn on weather alerts before bed and seek shelter if thunderstorms occur. Emergency officials emphasize the importance of staying weather-aware and remind residents to avoid drowning hazards by not attempting to drive or cross flooded roads.
