Lafayette County Solid Waste Department Announces Collection Schedule and Storm Debris Guidelines

The Lafayette County Solid Waste Department will operate all trash collection trucks daily this week, with Wednesday designated as an extra collection day. The department is also prepared to run routes on Saturday if necessary, according to a department spokesperson.

Residents are advised to keep household garbage separate for pickup. All routes will follow their regular schedules, with the added Wednesday service to accommodate demand.

Regarding storm debris, the department will collect debris generated within maintained areas. Vegetative debris, such as limbs and fallen trees, will be the most common, but other storm-related debris is also eligible for pickup.

Debris from storm-damaged structures, including sheds, fences, and outbuildings affected by ice or falling trees, qualifies for removal. If hazardous materials like paint or chemicals stored in those structures were damaged, they may be included as well.

To ensure efficient removal, all storm debris must be sorted by type and placed at the curb according to specified guidelines. Any storm-generated debris within maintained areas will be eligible for pickup, provided it is properly sorted and positioned at the curb.
