National Weather Service Issues Winter Storm Watch for Lafayette County
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Lafayette County and Oxford, effective from 12 p.m. Friday to 6 p.m. Sunday, according to the agency.
The watch warns residents of possible snow and sleet accumulations of more than two inches, along with ice buildup exceeding a quarter-inch. The primary concerns include hazardous travel conditions and the potential for power outages due to ice accumulation.
Officials advise residents to prepare now, including charging phones and power banks, stocking essential supplies, and readying vehicles with fuel, windshield fluid, and blankets. They also recommend checking on neighbors, especially seniors and those who may need assistance. Authorities urge residents to plan ahead and avoid unnecessary travel during the storm.
Further updates will be provided as the forecast develops, the weather service said.
