Oxford High swimmers win state gold, set school record in 200-yard medley relay

Four Oxford High School swimmers won gold in the 200-yard medley relay at the State Championship and set a school record with a time of 1:39.38, according to the Oxford School District.

The record-setting relay team consisted of juniors Gabe Cook and Preston McPheron and seniors Rel Alderson and Alex Mayo. The Oxford School District said the performance made school history.

The boys’ swim team also finished second overall at the State Championship. The team was coached by head coach Hayley Murphy and assistant coach Austin Smithwick.

The district said the post corrected name typos from a previous board recap and recognized the swimmers for their state championship performance.
