Oxford police detail traffic, shuttle plans for Ole Miss football vs. Mizzou
The Oxford Police Department said it would have an increased presence in and around the downtown Square for the Ole Miss football game against Mizzou, with the goal of proactively preventing disturbances and unsafe activity. People needing assistance downtown could visit the Safe Site tent across from Funky’s, according to the department’s Facebook post.
Shuttles would run from the South Oxford Center, Northwest Community College and Oxford High School parking lots beginning five hours before the game and continuing until two hours after it. The rides would be free. The Jackson Avenue Center no longer offered free parking, and parking there was available only through the CLUTCH! parking app.
O.U.T. would run free shuttle service from the Square to the Union and from the Jackson Avenue Center lot to the Observatory. That service would run for two hours after the game.
A campus geofence would be used for rideshare pickups. Designated locations included the Gertrude Ford Center, Jackson Avenue Center parking lot, Kudzu lot off Old Taylor Road and Insight Park near the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium. Riders would be directed to select one of those locations.
The department said no-parking zones would be enforced. Vehicles parked in designated no-parking areas, including highways and exit ramps, would be towed at the owner’s expense. The SEC clear bag policy would be in effect for in-stadium use, and the department advised people to lock their vehicles and store valuables in the trunk.
Beginning in the fourth quarter, Gertrude Ford and Old Taylor Road would convert to one-way traffic off campus. Shuttle buses would pick up at the power plant lot on Gertrude Ford.
After Gertrude Ford and Old Taylor went one-way, only southbound shuttle buses could continue toward Gertrude Ford at Molly Barr and Washington; all others had to turn. The Ford Center lot had to exit northbound toward Jackson Avenue, while Lot A and Manning Way had to turn right toward Old Taylor Road.
The department directed people to follow updates on X at @OxfordPolice and Facebook at @OxfordMSPolice. Traffic updates would also be available on the Tailgate Show pregame broadcasts on FM93.7 or FM105.5.
