Oxford Police, federal partners arrest three men in child enticement operation

The Oxford Police Department helped Homeland Security Investigations and the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office conduct a joint operation on July 22, resulting in three arrests on charges of enticement of a child for sexual purposes.

The operation, called Operation Muddy Waters, involved federal, state, and local agencies working together to identify and apprehend individuals suspected of attempting to meet minors for sexual reasons. Oxford investigators participated alongside other agencies in the coordinated effort.

Arrested were Dennis Russell Cooper, 68, of Oxford; Laynez-Gonzalez Oseas Neftali, 29, of Memphis, Tennessee; and Argueta Cristian Abel Giron, 33, of Rossville, Tennessee. All three suspects were transported to Lafayette County Detention Center and booked on their respective charges.

Oxford Police Chief Jeff McCutchen praised the collaborative effort, saying, “We appreciate all of our law enforcement partners and the work of the investigators involved in this operation. Protecting children and holding accountable those who seek to exploit them is a responsibility we take very seriously.”

The department also urged parents and guardians to discuss online safety with their children and be aware of the potential dangers of communicating with strangers online.
