Oxford police officers complete crisis intervention training

Oxford police officers Cameron Chunn, Tray LeSueur, Sheffield Anthony, and Zach Hatcher have completed Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training through the North Central Mississippi CIT program with Communicare, the department announced.

The training equips officers with skills to recognize mental health crises and respond with patience and de-escalation techniques. It emphasizes connecting individuals to appropriate resources rather than defaulting to arrest, officials said.

Mental health calls are among the most challenging situations officers face, and how they handle these encounters can significantly impact lives, according to the department. Oxford police expressed pride in investing in specialized training to foster safety and compassion within the community.

The department also thanked Communicare for their partnership in delivering the training. No additional details were provided.
