Oxford police outline traffic, shuttle plans for Ole Miss-Auburn game

The Oxford Police Department announced game-day traffic and transportation plans for the Ole Miss football game against Auburn, including an increased police presence around the downtown Square.

People needing assistance downtown can visit the Safe Site tent across from Funky’s, according to the department’s notice.

Shuttles will run from the South Oxford Center, Northwest Community College and Oxford High School parking lots beginning five hours before kickoff and continuing through two hours after the game. The rides are free.

The Jackson Avenue Center no longer offers free parking. Parking there is available only through the CLUTCH! parking app. O.U.T. will provide free shuttle service from the Square to the Union and from the Jackson Avenue Center lot to the Observatory for two hours after the game.

Campus rideshare pickups will be limited by a geofence to designated locations: the Gertrude Ford Center, the Jackson Avenue Center lot, the Kudzu lot off Old Taylor Road and Insight Park near the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium. Riders will be directed to choose one of those locations.

The department reminded drivers that vehicles parked in designated no-parking areas, including highways and exit ramps, will be towed at the owner’s expense. The SEC clear-bag policy will be in effect, and drivers were advised to lock their vehicles and store valuables in the trunk.

Beginning with the fourth quarter, Gertrude Ford and Old Taylor Road will convert to one-way traffic off campus. Shuttle buses will pick up at the power plant parking lot on Gertrude Ford.

At Molly Barr and Washington avenues, only southbound shuttle buses may continue toward Gertrude Ford. Other vehicles must turn left toward the City Pool or right toward the Chamber of Commerce. The Ford Center lot must exit northbound toward Jackson Avenue, while Lot A and Manning Way traffic must turn right toward Old Taylor Road. The Oxford Police Department urged motorists to follow officers’ directions.
