Poet Beth Ann Fennelly hosts local reading and literature classes in Mississippi

Beth Ann Fennelly, an award-winning author and University of Mississippi professor, is leading two community events in Mississippi. She is also featured in a forthcoming video interview as part of an ongoing arts series by oxms.net.

On Thursday, Fennelly will co-host Bring Your Own Book (BYOB) at Booth’s BBQ in Jackson. The event begins at 6 p.m. at The Barn, located at 2200 South Lamar. Participants are encouraged to arrive at 5:30 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m., and attendees will be assigned to tables for 45 minutes of silent reading followed by a 15-minute discussion. The event is free and pet-friendly, with a shaded patio and food available afterward, according to organizers.

Additionally, Fennelly is offering a free community class on Mississippi Literature. The class is part of her Faculty Laureateship from the Mississippi Lab, supported by the Dr. Daniel W. Jones Endowment. Interested participants must enter a lottery by Tuesday, Aug. 31. The 20 winners will be notified Wednesday, and classes will begin Sept. 21.
