Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Lafayette County

The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Lafayette County until 3 a.m. CDT, according to a statement from the agency.

The warning cites the potential for damaging winds up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail. The affected areas include Oxford, Abbeville, Taylor, Tula, Denmark and surrounding portions of Lafayette County.

Residents are advised to be prepared for possible downed trees, power lines and localized outages. Officials recommend having multiple ways to receive weather alerts, such as Wireless Emergency Alerts and NOAA Weather Radio, during the overnight hours.
