Desoto Central eliminates Oxford with third straight win over the Lady Chargers

The Desoto Central Lady Jaguars faced some resistance in their third meeting with the Oxford Lady Chargers, but after the first set it followed the same script as the first two meetings went.

Desoto Central eliminated Oxford from the MHSAA Class 6A Playoffs 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-15) in the Second Round inside the OHS Gym Saturday night.

Oxford (15-11 overall) fed off the home crowd energy in the first set, matching Desoto Central (28-5) point for point and ended up making more plays in the end to take their first and ended up being the only set of the season from the Lady Jaguars 25-23.

But Desoto Central proved entering this match why they’ve only had just six sets taken from them in best-of-five matches this season as Oxford was unable to put together service runs longer than a few points, overpowering the Lady Chargers over the next three sets to take the match. Earlier this season, Desoto Central has held Oxford to 16 points twice, nine, 12, and 19 in five of the previous six sets they played in the regular season.

Like the last match, the scoreboard inside the OHS Gym was not operating at full capacity, so no stats were available for this match.

Desoto Central will travel to Madison Central for the North Half match.
