Oxford beats Starkville to Advance

The Oxford Lady Chargers defeated the Starkville Lady Jackets in the First Round of the MHSAA Class 6A Playoffs 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-16) Tuesday night in the OHS Gym.

Starkville took an early 11-6 lead in the first set before Oxford came back with a 13-3 run to take a 17-14 lead. Oxford would then maintain that lead to the end of the first set 25-21 to take a 1-0 match lead.

Oxford would then have no further trouble in the second and third sets, with both sets with near wire-to-wire wins to take the match.

No stats were provided at the match as the scoreboard inside the OHS Gym was not functioning to full capacity.

Oxford will host Desoto Central Saturday night in the second round of the Class 6A Playoffs starting at 6 p.m. Desoto Central defeated Clinton 3-1 to advance past the first round. Oxford lost both of its regular season meetings in straight sets to the Lady Jaguars.
